SUFF-072 OBSERVATION

I have created a set piece of a made-up government department, investigating made-up “anomalies”. Some of the anomalies are personifications of my classmates and teachers rational and irrational childhood fears growing up, and some are ones I conceived based on real life objects. My thought process for this project was “what would a world look like where irrational, crazy fears weren’t so crazy”?
Would our current lifestyle be maintainable? How would the world react? What could we do to keep things under control?
The set piece is made of edited photos and original 3D models, a TV with an animation made up of a custom 3D set and green screened live action footage, and a few custom written documents that go into more detail about the anomalies, using the opportunity to incorporate some elements of nonlinear storytelling.

A series of digital illustrations as well as a fashion piece were on display. The punk movement of the 1970s influenced me greatly. Vivienne Westwood was the inspiration for my t-shirt. Protesters were arrested for holding up a blank piece of paper during recent events with Russia. As a result, I created this illustration. To symbolize this, as well as to allow you to express yourself on what you'd like to see in the box. As if it were a quotation, writing, or image. I customize a leather jacket to represent my personal style. With colours that signify my personal progress and development. Green represents renewal and growth, and this course has helped me gain confidence and progress as an artist. Wearing my item was like putting on armour as well as incredibly proud.
Never surrender your dreams. Do what brings you joy.

Pablo The Parrot

Animation in the modern day is considered by many to be a children’s medium, associated with beloved memories of movies from studios such as Disney and Pixar - However, animation at it’s conception was originally intended as any other art form, and along with it comes a long history of methods and principles.
For my final project, I wanted to explore the origins of animation, and utilise the techniques and styles used in the past - in particular celluloid animation - and bring them into the modern day, combining them with digital, modern day methods. In doing this I created my own character: Pablo The Parrot, a mischievous bird with a love for money and mayhem. My final piece on display was created by sketching the animation out digitally, printing out each frame, and transferring onto acetate sheets to be hand lined and painted. These were then transferred back into a digital form, and combined with a digitally painted background.

Not Everything Is Black And White.

From bad Mental Health and Bad Habits. To friends and family to mental health walks. We all have our struggles with our mental health, we have our own reasons and ways of dealing with it. My collection of images shows disconnection and the feeling of being lost and alone. The touch of colour in the images symbolizes hope and a chance at a brighter future.

Shero

If we just see the pieces of our face, and not see how they fit into the whole, then it is going to look distorted. The connection between the human body and mind is my inspirational starting point. After 20 years of painting surreal figure concepts, I have taken the leap to turn one of my paintings into a sculpture.
Shero ( She is a hero) sculpture presents the human form in a way that both mirrors and diverse how we see ourselves.

She never looked nice,
She looked like art, and art wasn’t supposed to look nice,
It was supposed to make you feel something.

She never looked flawless,
She looked like art, and art wasn’t supposed to look flawless,
It was supposed to make you feel something.
She never looked naked,

She looked like art, and art wasn’t supposed to look naked,
It was supposed to make you feel something.

She never looked back
On how it starts, and start isn’t supposed to make you look back,
It is supposed to make you feel something.

The Internet

I have made a film about the Internet and its impact. Especially focusing on platforms like facebook which have caused a detrimental impact on people and society. I decided to explore this topic in my film as I don’t think most people have fully realized the ways it has changed society for better or worse. I chose to use the medium of film as I am interested in making films and soundtracks and enjoy the process. I didn’t choose to cover these post Internet issues in detail, but instead made the film open to interpretation.
