70’s-90’s Punk

My work consists of a collection of punk based work. Carefully constructed to make an album cover. I have researched many ways to create successful punk attire. As fashion is a large part of punk culture, I explored different ways to successfully produce a jacket and crust pants. A lot of time was spent sewing with dental floss and a curved sewing needle to provide more strength compared to threads. Many hours were spent layering white acrylic paint to make the patches on the jacket and crust pants more definalbe. I prepared models for my photoshoot to have band type photos for the photobooth style photo stripes for the album cover I have produced. The album cover was a development design idea inspired by the Cramps album cover.

Mona Lisa

I have created a T-shirt that has an adapted design of the Mona Lisa on the back and a pair of eyes that have spirals in them on the front. The brief was tribes and cultures and so I went with the Hippie subculture. My adaptation of the Mona Lisa was in the hippie style, as I used bright colours and bold patterns and tried to make it explicitly clear what sort of vibe I was going for. I ran into a few issues while creating my t-shirt, such as when I printed the design some of the colours I used, such as the green, didn’t come through properly and so I went over them with neon green ‘puffy paint’ and in my opinion it looks better than it would have if the green had worked and so I was happy to use the substitute paint.

Cultures and Tribes.
I have made a range of textiles experiments from different Asian cultures specifically desi culture. I have explored architecture and the history of clothing in Asia in order to create a reflection of its culture. The wire sculptures represent the architecture, the ruffles also represent the layered end of the The Tomb of King in Uzbekistan. Embroidery inspired from the patterns of traditional garments and buildings. The velvet fabric and satin fabrics represent the luxury of the countries including the use of gold thread. Popular textiles in Uzbekistan are weaving, inspired from the architecture and garment, I used a blue colour scheme to create a small piece to try and explore my options.

Mandalorians

I have exhibited a replica of Boba Fetts helmet from star wars. With the theme of the fmp being tribes and cultures I've decided that I could look at tribes within pop culture. Specifically I have chosen to look at mandalorians as a tribe from star wars. So I've designed the helmet of Boba fett the very first mandalorian to ever appear on screen.

1950 and cosplay

I have exhibited a collection of photographs of me in different cosplays, I have assigned each cosplay character with an alternative outfit from what they usually wear. This outfit is based in the1950s, most of the characters have dresses. I decided to do this project because I am interested in the 1950s. The cosplay portion was because I have had an interest in coplay for a while and I have been cosplaying for two years. Initially, I was just going to do a 1950 shoot with me as myself or have models come in . However I thought it would be more interesting if I added cosplay as well, it would give my work more of a variety. For the majority of the cosplay characters they are from different shows and universes.

Tribes and Cultures

I have exhibited an illustrated book including oil pastel illustrations, pen drawings, watercolor paintings and digital works that explore the tribes and cultures within the amazon rainforest. I decided to create a book as books throughout history have been a very powerful tool used to help promote change and raise awareness. The aim of my book is to capture the unique cultural, spiritual and ecological aspects of the Amazon whilst also encouraging the conservation and protection of the forest. I created this book with a young target audience in mind aiming to inspire young people to stand with environmental conservation. In my book I have produced a variety of illustrations and artworks to represent the beauty and serenity of our planet and the life that inhabits our rainforests. Serving as a hopeful reminder of the natural wonders that we are blessed with. I have also included pages in my book that show the shocking statistics of the environmental degradation that our rainforests are facing currently, to send a hard hitting message alongside my artworks.

Egyptian skating

I have exhibited a Skateboard design depicting a pharaoh's sarcophagus which has been vandalized in order to provide a more outgoing design which relates to the rebellious nature of skate and skate culture. This has been done from the sarcophagus being made of brick, being covered in tags and rude words. This was done to further relate to graffiti artists who tag similar things onto random walls around most towns. The bright design of the background is used to bring more attention to the owner and make them stand out from others.

Witches

I have exhibited a collection of different styles of books which represent different aspects of witches. With my theme being witches, I have explored different ways to create objects that link with witches and with these exhibited pieces I have  not only created a witches book but also provided context to each piece. The green on the book I wanted to reflect forestry as trees have been associated with many mythologies such as witches, While the gold paint reflects the idea that witches can use gold colours to cast spells.displaying the book in a horizontal line brings the green and the gold together create opposite hues of the colour wheel along with texture and contrast to create the rhythm.

Dystopian tribe (tribes & culture)

I wanted to showcase the museum style outcomes that I produced to illustrate the findings of a dystopian style tribe. As shown, I have included both 2D and 3D outcomes, which all resemble items that could be found in a museum, and are meant to depict a tribe set in the distant future, all from differing and unique cultures. I chose to include very convincing ‘artifacts’ within this project, such as the 2D sketches included - which are created to look like a member of the tribe, Khepri’s, artwork. I chose the colours of Egyptian blue, (which is the culture Khepri is based around) to make the piece more convincing and interesting. The 3D outcomes are also meant to be convincing props and artifacts from the tribe, including the belt pouch belonging to the Viking of the group, Braith. I took inspiration from items in history, to make the outcomes as accurate as possible.

Tribes And Cultures: Russia.

I have exhibited a piece of artwork that represents Russia’s president, Vladmir Putin. With my theme being Tribes and Cultures, I decided to choose a country and represent that country's culture. Choosing Russia, meant I look into the current circumstances happening right now in 2022. I looked into different things that create Russia's culture. My final piece can be seen from different perspectives and can be taken in different ways. The abstract piece can be viewed as a positive art piece to the citizens of Russia, meaning that they view President Putin as this powerful human leading them into the future. However citizens of other countries may perceive the art piece as messy and overwhelming just how they might view the current situation with Russia now. ‘Special Military Operation’ was written across the piece, as this was how President Vladmir Putin described the situation with Ukraine this year.

Tribes and Cultures

I have exhibited a collection of 3D models, a painting and jewellery which represent some aspects of different tribes and their cultures. I chose to focus more on one side of the subject, which I chose tribes, I have explored into a small selection of tribes and created objects and a painting based off of them. The clay masks reflect on the Dogon tribes culture and their traditions, how they dance wearing masks to ensure a safe passage for the spirits of the deceased to the world of the ancestors. The clay pots reflect on the tribe's decoration and style, their pots are so beautiful and come in all shapes and sizes, they are also quite important in their lives to carry essentials such as food and water, or they hold the ashes of their ancestors which they hold close to them. The jewellery reflects the tribes style of clothing, although there are many different tribes, a common thing you’ll see on their outfits are lots of jewellery on most parts of their bodies (arms, head, neck, torso, legs), their jewellery have lots to them and have such gorgeous patterns on them. The mixed media painting of a tribe woman reflects on the beauty of tribal women, based on a Bhils woman, woman wear such long dresses with lots of patterns, jewellery and make up, although a different race they are just as beautiful as anyone else in this world of different cultures; the bright clothing and shiny jewellery makes them glimmer in the moonlight. The spear reflects on how tribes live, they don’t just go to a shop and all the meat is already made into a meal for them, they have to go and hunt for their own food using tools such as spears, they do everything themselves, the long stick helps them stay away from possible threats as they try to get their food. Displaying these pieces on a shelf shows a collection of things that are common in their lives which may not be as common in ours, it shows how much our lives are different to them and how they live.

Tribes and Cultures
Here I have created a trio of paintings revolving around the topic of rape culture. Each painting consists of a different phrase often used when victim blaming survivors of sexual assault. My piece connects to nature, regrowth and new beginnings after a traumatic event. I used colors to represent a range of emotions in my paintings.    Rape culture is a very real prevelent in schools today and not handled properly by staff or pupils. Rape jokes and comment are often ignored or ‘apprtopriatised’ . I felt that this piece could trigger a change in society and make people look at the root of these issues before its too late.

얘기 (Story)
I have exhibited a short illustration-only story based on my research of traditions and culture from Korea. My theme was Korean culture. Each page depicts Chae-Won (채원) experiencing her life, including some important traditions of that time. I have recycled used paper and sawdust for each page to be representative of the processes in creating hanji (paper) using sawdust to represent the raw materials in the paper. I have used watercolour to add colour as they can more accurately emulate the colours used in traditional artworks. I used fineliner to break up the images and make the story easier to follow. The red cotton binding is representative of traditional Korean book binding (seonjang).  In each part of this work I have tried to link everything carefully into traditional Korean culture through research.

I wanted to create something from the 2000s which was an album cover and a bandana. I wanted to create a bandana because it’s my favorite item of clothing from the 2000s and that it represents the music and movies from that era. What I also like about this era is that everyone had their own signature style.

Japanese Culture

I have exhibited an Oil painting that's been combined with a secondary layer of floral lino prints. This  represents specific elements of Japanese culture. I choose to paint a modernized version of a Geisha wearing a Kitsune mask ( A mythical creature in Japanese stories) using oil paints and then I have placed an assortment of different Japanese flowers and foliage over the painting using red lino print. I have researched and developed my Ideas of may different artists but specifically Miho Hirano and Zuo Zhongli.

I have exhibited a collection of photos and a prop  which represent different aspects of anime cosplay. With my  theme being Anime and cosplay, I have explored different ways to portrait the photos and with these exhibited pieces I have not only created a zine but also provided context to each piece. The zine will contain photos from my photoshoots with detailed explanations of who they are and how well they cosplay. One of the characters my model Eliza cosplays is a character called Jirou from an anime called My Hero academia. My other model is called bex and she displayed a typical gothic teen.

The art of film
I have exhibited a small collection of acrylic paintings on canvas to represent the art in film. The theme of this exhibit is cultures, film culture being one of the biggest non religious cultures in the world. I have decided to make a collection of art representing the art in films. A bodice corset to represent the older century and forgotten beauty in classic, modest outfit from film.  The chosen fabric for my corset is a thick patterned fabric perfect for an older designed piece of clothing, in past centuries they wore many patterns depending on how wealthy their family was. My paintings were chosen from beautiful scenes in film; Beauty and the Beast showing everyone can be loved if they only meet the right person and the beauty in an enemies to lovers movie, Cinderella showing the moment she knew he was the one for her and the euphoric feeling of love at first sight and then The Winter Soldier and Loki showing both enemies but both scarred by war and influence wanting to break out of the sequence. These all show the beauty and art in movies and the incredible reasoning for each moment.

Folklore

I have exhibited a collection of maquettes of iconic buildings from well known Folklore tales and how they represent different features of their stories. With my  theme being Folklore, I have explored different ways to create the buildings and with these exhibited pieces I have not only created maquettes but also provided context for each one. The raw materials of cardboard, newspaper and lollipop sticks represent the storyteller aspect and make it look like a pop up book. The proportions of each maquette shows my experimentation with each piece. The size of the builds are small to ensure there is detailing to make them interesting. Displaying the pieces in a horizontal line makes each individual maquette stand out by itself and that way you can identify each building with its corresponding story.

Have we really evolved?
I have exhibited an acrylic painting on a large wood board, to represent the enormity of what is currently going on in our society and our planet, all held up upon the shoulders of Atlas the titan god who bore the sky aloft. Each individual illustration demonstrates a piece of human evolution which is all a part of my theme, connected with anthropology/human behaviour and the problems in society around the world. I have done much research on my themes  these past few weeks, watched the news and debated and argued about it with my family and have learnt a great deal of information regarding ourselves as humans, and now developed a different view on the world and how it works. I tested sketching on paper, made mock ups on cardboard and small scale wood board, I attempted to paint a mix of cartoonish type illustrations and realism illustrations, using vibrant colours, to make it seem less moody, dark, sad; and also to catch the eye of the beholder.

My piece is a reflection on self destructive tendencies. I have created a surrealist interpretation of a dollhouse inspired by those I’ve met along my journey. The dollhouse is covered in leather to replicate the feel of skin. I want this to symbolise becoming the home for the people in your life who need it. Each room is decorated to represent the people most important to me in my life. My inspiration behind this piece is a quote from poet Warsan Shire. The quote is as follows: “You tried to change, didn’t you? Closed your mouth, tried to be softer, prettier, less volatile, less awake … You can’t make homes out of human beings. Someone should have already told you that.”. Although the existence of my piece directly contradicts its inspiration, it acts as a visual aid in realising that moulding yourself to be more digestible for others will destroy you from the inside. We all want to become what the people we love need, but at what cost?

Ukraine

I have created a barge art pot which represents Ukraine and their Easter holiday tradition. With my theme being Tribes and Culture in Ukraine, I have explored different possibilities to outcomes. I've provided other outcomes such as my sublimation print and my collages. The pattern I used in my barge art relates to the Easter Holiday. The colors I've used relate to different emotions they share. The yellow reflects on how happy you feel. The red show either represents anger or love which are complete opposites. The pot itself could represent Green Week as they love to decorate their interior houses with plants and flowers.

End Of Days

My work consists of a 360 Diorama, which portrays three different types of post-apocalyptic scenarios; Nuclear Winter, Fallout, and Biohazard. This was created within a theme of gaming, whilst also raising awareness to the harsh reality of what our future could be. An honest and simple look into the truths of Nuclear warfare, and biological weapons, and the aftermath of these events.
